Kyle Macquarrie

I am an experienced front-end developer, who works well as part of a multidisciplinary team, from client services to back-end developers. I have a track record of building and maintaining web sites and applications using a variety of tools. Thanks to a design education, I have a good understanding of visual and UX design and how they interact with the front-end. I know my way around the command-line and version control using Git.

As well as writing clean HTML/CSS/JavaScript, I enjoy mentoring and helping colleagues, and taking opportunities to learn from them whenever possible. I've introduced modern practices like JavaScript unit testing and worked to improve processes with tools like Webpack.

Experience

Senior Front-end developer

tictoc digital, Glasgow | June 2016 - present

As a senior developer, I have worked to re-architect and rebuild the UI of our CMS using Vue.js and Webpack. This includes a high level of automated testing for all new components and reworking the back-end Rails API where required. My role has also expanded to include scoping and estimating jobs, mentoring other members of the development team, and setting guidelines and best practices for front-end development.

Front-end developer

tictoc digital, Glasgow | June 2014 - June 2016

Working with designers, project managers and back-end developers to build and maintain a variety of client websites using an in-house Ruby On Rails CMS, replicating designs in code and integrating with the CMS. I also researched new technologies and techniques for the team to apply. Sites I was the lead front-end developer on include Arran Whisky, Clyde Space, Cytocell, and our own site, amongst others.

Front-end developer intern

Lambie-Nairn, London | May – August 2013

As part of O2/telefonica's "Think Big" Corporate Social Responsibility program, I was commissioned with a design intern to design and implement templates to make up O2's 2012 sustainability report website. We worked with their established brand and digital agencies through the conceptual, prototyping and template design and development phases, including pitching to O2's sustainability management team, before handing over the templates to the CMS vendor and advising on integrating with their system.

Web developer

Freelance | 2012 - present

I've done a variety of freelance work, ranging from static template builds to theme customisation to full-stack bespoke builds. I also manage ongoing clients' virtual private servers using Ansible and Capistrano.
